July 2017 TBR

After reading so many ARCs in June, I am looking forward to just kicking back and buddy reading with some of my very dear friends. July is always a crazy month for me, just because it is the month that almost all of my family decided to be born in, so I’m not setting a very strict TBR, but here are some of the things I’ve already committed to reading this month!

The Bronze Horseman (The Bronze Horseman, #1) by Paullina Simons:
I’m buddy reading this with Paloma ❤. I won’t lie; I’m a little apprehensive to read this, just because all of my friends either love it or hate it. I feel like I’m going to break someone’s heart regardless, but I’m really hoping I can fall in love with the story, and it won’t end up being a play by play of WWII! We shall soon find out, because it is one of the first things I plan to read this month!

The Fifth Season (The Broken Earth, #1) by N.K. Jemisin:
I’m buddy reading this with Gelisvb ❤. The Fifth Season has been on my TBR for far too long. I am so excited to finally read it, and I have nothing but the highest expectations, which hopefully won’t cause me disappointment.

Age of Swords (The Legends of the First Empire #2) by Michael J. Sullivan:
Age of Myth was one of my favorite reads of 2016, so I couldn’t resist getting an ARC of the second book in this amazing series. This releases July 25th, 2017, and I am so very thankful that I am able to read and review this before that release date! Seriously, don’t sleep on this series! It is so worth the read if you’re a fantasy, YA or Adult, lover.

City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare:
You all probably saw the cover of this and lost your damn minds! Haha! Okay, so I’ve always been very negative with my feelings towards Cassandra Clare. From plagiarism, to not treating readers right, to many other things I’ve read, but this all being said, I need to learn to separate the art from the author, because that is probably my worst problem as a reader, honestly. Plus, I feel like I’m missing out on something amazing with all of my friends’ glorious reviews of The Dark Artifices series, so far! I figured I should at least give this world a try and what better time than now?

Corrupt (Devil’s Night #1) by Penelope Douglas:
I’m also going to be buddy reading this with Paloma ❤! I’ll be honest, I’m just really in the mood for a good erotic romance, and Jess from PeaceLoveBooksxo completely hyped this up and made me want to read this, and more from Penelope Douglas, so very badly.

Nevernight (The Nevernight Chronicle #1) by Jay Kristoff:
I’ve wanted to pick this up since its release, but I’ve been a little apprehensive because some of my most trusted friends have absolutely hated it! Yet, now I keep seeing it constantly compared to Red Sister and I would love to read a book that is anything like what Mark Lawrence created, especially with the sequel, Godsgrave, releasing so soon!

I hope all my friends and followers had an amazing reading month in June! I wish you all the good books in the world for July!

    1. Well you’re lucky, because book two is going to drop the end of the month, so yo using have to read 10+ books to get caught up. It actually is a prequel to his other series, so I bet you’ll enjoy it a lot, love! ❤️😘 xx

  1. I think Red Sister is compared to Nevernight, I even compared Mia (Nevernight main character) to Nona.😂 I’d definitely say Red Sister is better, a lot less waffle to in the book but Nevernight is still a decent read that I enjoyed. One of the worst things about it is the use of footnotes, some take up more than the story on a page and especially for the first half of the book there’s a lot of them.😂

    1. Oh good lord! Hopefully I can power through! I just want to know what the hype is all about! And a lot of people are telling me there is sexy time, too? I’m like…. I think I’m picturing this book completely differently than what it is going to end up being! Hahaha. Thanks for the heads up, Drew! ❤️xx

      1. I’m sure you’ll power through! I didn’t mean it’s a bad book, far from it, I enjoyed it even with issues and I’d read the sequel so I must have liked it.😀

I read an ARC last year and when I read it, because Kristoff writes Y-A everyone was saying Nevernight was Y-A just because Mia is young and I read adult fantasy, a young main character occurs a lot in adult fantasy so I knew Nevernight wasn’t Y-A, but all the people who proclaimed it was, ha!😂 Couple of bits in it are nearer grimdark and yeah, it has a rather explicit bit of s#xy time in it.

    1. Hahaha, no, I’m the odd one out, and was born in August! 😜 Hahaha. But I am like… a Virgo 100%, so I guess it works out? 😂 and yeah, I’ve heard Nevernight is a little problematic, and you know I’m not going to stand for that shit, so we will see! I hope it goes smoothly though! Fingers crossed!

Happy July, love! And I hope your June was amazing! ❤️😘xo

      2. Haha I’m doing alright but I really do miss the friends I made. One is actually planning to study abroad at my school for a year because he wants to see me and my friends again ^^
And good lord I got to the part where Feyre was DONE with Ianthe messing with Lucien and DAYUM lol

      3. Legit, one of my favorite parts of the whole series is the talk about how men can be sexually assisted/abused. Such a good shining light. Ahhhh! Plus, like, I love Lucien. Him and Feyre’s friendship is so pure. Hahaha. 💗

  2. Awesome tbr!! I’m firmly in the “hate it” camp for Bronze Horseman, but I really hope you don’t have the same experience I had with that book and actually get to enjoy it! I get that about Clare- but I hope you like her series- they’re a lot of fun 😀 I’ve wanted to read Nevernight for ages too!

    1. Ahhhh, I’m so scared! But in a good way, I guess? Hahahaha. Thank you though, love! We shall see what I think. But I’ve had two really good/high star rating months. I’m so over dude for a dud! Hahaha. 💗

  3. Oh man, Nevernight. I really enjoyed it. So looking forward to Age of Swords as well! It is one my most anticipated for this year. 🙂

  4. I hope you like City of Bones! It’s part of my favourite series ever 😀 I have never really read up on the issues with Cassandra Clare, because I love her books so much and I don’t want anything to jeopardise my love of her (selfish I know)

    1. Haha, it’s not selfish, it’s completely understandable. I’m the same way with Brandon Sanderson, honestly. But I have high hopes! And I’m looking forward to seeing why so many people love it so much! 💗xo

  5. Great TBR! I loved Nevernight despite not liking the flowery writing style of the book. Yeah, there are some aspects in this book that is similar to Red sister but I hope you enjoy it. I’ve read only few books from Penelope Douglas and I loved them. I’ll look forward to hear your thoughts on Corrupt! I loved City of Bones but I still haven’t finished the series yet so I’m hoping to pick this up sometime in the future.
    Happy Reading! 🙂

    1. Oh, you’ve made me so much more excited, Raven! I’ve been on the fence about Nevernight for a long time, and I’ve wanted to read Penelope Douglas for forever, so now I’m way more excited! 💗✨

      Happy reading, love! 💖

  6. Ooo, looks like you got a July month of fantasy coming your way:)
I’m a sucker for any fantasy/sci-fci novel that has a romantic twist so the Devil’s Night series may just be what I need (I just came out of an immense June-gloom reading slump).
I look forward to reading more from you in the future, happy July reading! 🙂

    1. Awh, thank you! Yeah, I’m hoping for a nice pallet cleanser this month with romance, but we will see. I never stray too far from my fantasy roots! Haha.

Happy reading to you, too! 💗✨

  7. I loved Nevernight but yes it’s very love or hate XD Give it 100 pages is my only advice. Red Sister is way up on my TBR because everyone was saying it was like Nevernight so I can’t wait to read it 🙂 Hope you’re loving all of these and having a great July ❤
