Book Blogger Insider Tag

I was tagged to do the Book Blogger Insider Tag by the amazing Sophie @ Blame Chocolate! (Thank you, love!) 💘

Rules:
1. Answer the questions below
2. Credit the creator Jamie @ALittleSliceofJamie
3. Tag at least 5 people
4. Have fun!

1. Where do you typically write your blog posts?
90% of the time I do it on my laptop, at my desk, in my bedroom. But 10% of the time, when I’m traveling or out somewhere, I will type away on my iPad with a traveling keyboard I have.

2. How long does it generally take you to write a book review?
It depends how much I love or hated the book, honestly, haha! But I think it is always safe to say between an hour and two hours. Sometimes I spend a lot of time gushing about how much a book meant to me, or I spend too long trying to articulate why a particular book didn’t work for me. The stipulation is Anthologies, because I write those reviews as I read the stories, so technically those take me days. *flex*

3. When did you start your book blog?
I officially made my blog on January 3rd, 2016, but I didn’t really take it that seriously until January 2017. I have been reviewing since 2009 on Goodreads, but some of those early reviews, when I was young and dumb, are so very cringeworthy. Do not recommend reading, haha!

4. What is the worst thing about having a book blog in your opinion?
I think the worst thing is just not feeling good enough sometimes. I think this is just something I struggle with in life in general, but sometimes blogging can feel really overwhelming when you feel like you aren’t being appreciated, especially since we are all doing this for free and it takes way more time than anyone prepares you for!

5. What is the best thing about having a book blog in your opinion?
There are so many good things, but I’d say the best is just being a part of a community that constantly shares and celebrates a love for reading. I don’t really have offline friends that read, so being able to talk and gush and complain about books with people on here is one of the greatest blessings in my life. But having someone tell you they loved a book you recommended is right behind it.

6. What blog post have you had the most fun writing so far?
My favorite blog post I’ve ever created has to be my experience at The Goodreads Power User Summit at the end of 2017. Not only was it a highlight of my year, it is an experience I will never forget and I feel so very honored and blessed to have been able to write it.

7. What is your favourite type of blog post to write?
I love writing my wrap ups! It gives me a great opportunity to reflect on what I read for the month, and I love seeing what were the highs and the lows for my month, and seeing the star ratings I gave everything.

8. When do you typically write?
I read mostly at night, so I finish books mostly at night, and my favorite time to write reviews is immediately after I finish the book, so I typically also write my reviews late night. The rest of the time, I just try to squeeze writing in whenever I can, but it seems to be later at night, before bed!

9. Do you review every book you read?
Ever since I got serious about reviewing on Goodreads, I have. I hate being late with reviews, and it happens very rarely. I am a very scheduled person, and I have a type A personality where I love making lists, spreadsheets, and keeping track of all things in life, including my reading and reviewing.

10. How do you write your book reviews? With a cup of coffee or tea? With Netflix? Cuddled with your fur baby?
The number one thing I need while writing is a quiet space, which is sometimes hard to come by. I do love a cup of tea, or maybe a beer, depending on how I felt about the book, but they are just an added bonus.

11. When do you write your book reviews? Right after finishing the book? Two weeks after finishing the book?
I already touched upon this above, but I love writing my reviews immediately after finishing the book, as long as my notes are finished. (Sometimes, when reading eARCs, I just highlight, and then I need to transfer my notes onto paper.)

12. How often do you post?
This just depends on how much I am able to read for the month, and how big the books I’m consuming are! I make sure I always post a minimum of twice a week, but I like to be at about four a week, because I like to post around fifteen things a month.

  1. I totally feel you about not feeling good enough! I’m very aware that everyone has their own style both in blogging and how they write their reviews but damn, I constantly feel like everything I post isn’t good enough! If you and your fantastic reviews don’t feel good enough then there’s no hope for the rest of us!

      1. February is OK thanks, could always be worse, gotta look on the bright side.😀

I think a lot of people feel that way! I often see it mentioned. It’s a struggle thinking that what you write isn’t good enough I’d rather feel that way and not the opposite though and think everything I write is amazing. At least if you question your reviews, etc it means you care about what you’ve written but it also makes you try and put out the best post you can.😀

Lol! I’m pretty sure the word you are looking for is hate not love where I am concerned in the blogging community! I’m definitely not amazing either but thank you.😀📚

      2. FOR SURE LOOKING AND MEAN LOVE! But yeah, it always feels good to not feel so “alone” with your feelings. Seriously, you mentioning how you felt made me feel so much less alone. Your words meant a lot to me. 💘xx

  2. Such a cute tag, thanks for tagging me tooooo ❤ It's so nice to be able to read about people's blogging habits and what happens behind the reviews, especially when so many of us all have the same paranoia that we're not good enough at this to keep doing it! You're a fantastic blogger though and I always love reading your posts <3<3

  3. Aaahh thank you so much for nominating me, lovely!! I’ve already done this tag but it still means a lot. 😍💜 And omg I used to b able to write my reviews right after I finished the book, but now my RTCs have started piling up and I can’t do it anymore! Oh god, I’m so jealous of everyone able to write reviews in less than an hour, because I know I set out to write a few things about the book when I have the time and suddenly a whole hour has passed and I’ve written only half of the review. 😂 Great post, Melanie!!

    1. Awh, thank you, love! I should have checked! I’m sorry! But now I’ll creep when I’m home. 😈 but don’t stress about RTCs. They happen to us all. And your reviews are always so amazing and so worth the wait! 💗

  5. Wonderful answers, Mel! I’m so happy you did this one ❤
You and I seem very similar when it comes to being super organized and wanting things a very specific way – type A personality for sure! I also get a bit stressed when I don't get my reviews done on time and need quiet to work.
You're right about the wonderful community and, of course, influencing others in a positive way! Whenever someone does pick up a book I recommended it makes me so happy ^^
Loved your post, hon! Keep up the great work ❤ ❤
