Down the TBR Hole #1

Down the TBR Hole was originally created by Lost in a Story! The point of it is to help cull your reading lists down, or maybe push higher anticipated releases up on your TBR! And maybe you all can help me along the way, and tell me if you’ve loved or hated any of these!

How it works:
➽ Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
➽ Order on ascending date added.
➽ Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
➽ Read the synopses of the books
➽ Decide: keep it or should it go?

Friends, I’ve had my Goodreads account since 2009, which was peak paranormal literature time, so you may notice a theme with a lot of these. Also, I can’t believe I still have books on my TBR from 2009! Friends, I need help.

The Six Books:

➽ Succubus Blues (Georgina Kincaid #1) by Richelle Mead
You all, this is the OG book on my Goodreads TBR! There is no way in heck I’m getting rid of it. And wouldn’t it be cute if I read it next year in 2019, and then I can say, “holy shit, I’ve had this book on my TBR for ten years!” Friends, I’m nothing if not extra.
Verdict: Keep ✅

Forever (The Wolves of Mercy Falls #3) by Maggie Stiefvater
I was actually shook when I looked at my TBR and saw this, because I could have sworn I read it. I’ll have to go and look at my copy and see if I at least have a bookmark or something in it! Shiver was the first book I ever bought when B&N finally came to Flint, and it was also the first book I ever reviewed. So, even though I recognize this probably isn’t the best series, this series still means a lot to me.
Verdict: Keep ✅

Lament: The Faerie Queen’s Deception by Maggie Stiefvater
Apparently, teen Melanie just wanted to read ALL the Maggie Stiefvater things. But this looks like it has fae in it, so I’m actually kind of interested. But I do not own a copy of this one, so maybe I should delete it off my TBR?
Verdict: Delete ❌

Breath, Eyes, Memory by Edwidge Danticat
You all, this has my favorite quote of all time in it. My aunt actually bought me this and recommended it to me, and she is also the reason I know the quote. I can’t believe I am such a slacker that I haven’t read this, especially with the amount of advertisement I’ve given the quote: “Love is like the rain. It comes in a drizzle sometimes. Then it starts pouring and if you’re not careful it will drown you.”
Verdict: Keep ✅

Covet (Fallen Angels #1) by J.R. Ward
I have read all of JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series, and all the companion spin-offs, but I haven’t read this series, which also have crossovers to BDB! But JR Ward is a damn writing machine, and I honestly don’t think I’ll ever go back and read this one, even though I have purchased so many in this series in mass market paperbacks!
Verdict: Delete ❌

Moon Called (Mercy Thompson #1) by Patricia Briggs
Again, the PNR vibes and urges were strong in 2009. But I’ve actually heard good things about this series. But let’s be real, am I ever going to pick it up? I mean, I’ve been neglecting it for almost a decade now.
Verdict: Delete ❌

Okay, friends, these are the oldest six books I have on my TBR! I hope you all enjoyed this first installment of this series! I always feel so nervous and anxious when I do new things on the blog! Let me know if you love, hate, and/or recommend me to read or trash any of these books! Thank you all so much, and I hope whatever you’re currently reading is five star worthy! 💛✨

  1. I listened to the first 8 books in the Mercy Thompson series on Overdrive & they were pretty good. I stopped listening once they started throwing in Mercy being Native American 8 books in…I get that it’s dated but still, why she wasn’t presented as Native American from the start was sketch and definitely used as a plot device. Sucks cause I really did enjoy the ship in this one. Is that a JR Ward book I see here? 😱😱😱

    1. GIRL! IT HAS BEEN DELETED! I CAN’T BE MESSING WITH THIS! That’s the good feedback that I need! Hahaha! And yeah, it’s an old school JR Ward that I probably should read, but girl *looks at our stack* WE NEED MORE TIME IN A DAY! But seriously, Lil, thank you so much. You’re so amazing and such a blessing! 💗xx

  2. I definitely enjoyed this post! ☺️ That’s amazing that you still have books from 2009 on your TBR, haha. 😂❤️ It would definitely be cool if you read Succubus Blues in 2019, hehe. And I may try doing doing this (down the TBR hole) sometime, since I have a lot of books on my TBR too (but who doesn’t?).

    1. You should totally do it, Dezzy love! I mean, I’m still a little nervous with this being my first one, but still! I’d love to see what’s on yours! Happy reading! 💗xx

  3. I love seeing what people are keeping and removing from their TBRs– perhaps it is because I’m so nosy! hahaha.
Bummer about Mercy, I love that series, but totally understandable if you aren’t feeling like reading UF.
I do think one of the best parts of going through our TBRs is finding those books/series we forgot to finish or rediscovering a really interesting series.

    Good luck with this!

  4. Great post, I look forward to seeing some of the other books on your TBR 😀 you should never stop being your extra self as you are amazing 💜💜 I would recommend reading Forever but that may be because like you I have a special place in my heart for the series as they were the first Maggie Stiefvater books I ever read and she is now one of my favourite authors.

    1. Hahahaha! Yeah, I think I got lucky with these six. I’m excited and scared to see the rest! But you should totally give this segment a try! I mean, I’ve only done it once, but I’ve gotten really positive feedback on it! Happy reading, my love! 💜xx

  5. Are you willing to disclose how many books are on your TBR? I’ve been a member since 2015? My oldest book is Jim Butchers Olympian Spires #2 which hasn’t been written yet… so I don’t hold that against myself. The next book has been on there almost 2 years.

      1. That’s not bad at all considering some of them are 10 years old! Someone else who was doing the TBR thing had over a thousand, but I don’t remember who it was… a thousand is beyond crazy!

  6. Got rid of several hundred books and I didn’t even think about my GR tbr pile :O Sometimes I wonder why I even place books on a tbr list since I forget about them right away if it’s not a title I’m already invested in reading more of. I think this is a great idea that’ll really help cut down the never-ending spiral haha

    1. This is the biggest mood, Mary! I honestly should do this with my TBR… just wait until I’m actually picking up something. BUT SEVERAL HUNDRED? I bet your library loved you! Hehe! I hope you’re having happy reading and gaming, my love! 💗xx

    1. Hahaha! Yes, you should totally do it! I mean, I’ve only done the one so far, but it gave me a good giggle and… I really need to clean up this TBR! Haha! But I hope whatever you’re currently reading is five stars, gorgeous! 💗xx
