Down the TBR Hole #9

Down the TBR Hole was originally created by Lost in a Story! The point of it is to help cull your reading lists down, or maybe push higher anticipated releases up on your TBR! And maybe you all can help me along the way, and tell me if you’ve loved or hated any of these!

How it works:
➽ Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
➽ Order on ascending date added.
➽ Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
➽ Read the synopses of the books
➽ Decide: keep it or should it go?

Oh my word, this is quite the combination of books this week! A lot of very different types of fantasy, that I would love your opinions on! Seriously, friends, please help me!

The Six Books:

Theft of Swords by Michael J. Sullivan
I love Michael J. Sullivan’s Age of Myth, so I know I’m going to love this series that is set in the same world, but at a different time. Just, so many books and so little time, friends! But I am really excited for this one!
Verdict: Keep ✅

The Rose & the Dagger (The Wrath and the Dawn #2) by Renee Ahdieh
I read The Wrath and the Dawn a few years ago and really enjoyed the story and the lyrical, lush writing. But now I’ve read a few short stories by Renee Ahdieh and I wasn’t the biggest fan, so I think it has really stopped me from picking this up! Is this conclusion worth it, loves?
Verdict: Keep ✅

A Natural History of Dragons (The Memoirs of Lady Trent #1) by Marie Brennan
I feel so much shame that I haven’t read this series, especially because I own the full series now! This series is beloved by so many of my friends, and I know I’m going to love this feminist tale filled with dragons!
Verdict: Keep ✅

Blood Stain, Volume 1 (Blood Stain #1) by Linda Sejic
Linda helps with Sunstone, which is a graphic novel that I really like! So, I’m guessing this is why this is on my TBR, but I don’t own it and I’ll probably never buy it, honestly.
Verdict: Delete ❌

The Black Prism (Lightbringer #1) by Brent Weeks
I know I should have read this by now. But like I said above, so many books and so little time! But I feel like I can’t take this off my TBR because so many people love it, but on the other hand, I know there are so many fantasy series that I’d rather read over this one. Help, friends!
Verdict: Delete ❌

This Savage Song (Monsters of Verity #1) by Victoria Schwab
Oh Lord, please don’t hate me. I have loved and felt meh about so many different works by this author. And I know this has super high ratings, but I’ll be honest, the premise just doesn’t sound like something I’d like. I do have a signed copy of this though, so it makes me want to force myself to eventually pick it up!
Verdict: Delete ❌

Well, friends, that was an “even” three and three, unless you can change my mind about these six books that I have on my TBR! Let me know if you love, hate, and/or recommend me to read or trash any of these books! Thank you all so much, and I hope whatever you’re currently reading is five star worthy! 💛✨

  1. I wasn’t the biggest fan of The Wrath and the Dawn, so I haven’t read The Rose and the Dagger (despite owning a copy. Heh). I’m sorry about This Savage Song, though! I’ll admit, I’m mostly just curious about it because of the high ratings, too, but the synopsis is just unappealing. D:

    1. I love this comment, Aimee! Thank you so much for it! I mean, there is a reason I haven’t picked up The Rose and the Dagger for years… hahaha! And I love you! And I hope you’re having a happy reading! ❤ xx

  2. I’m glad you decided to keep Rose & The Dagger! I felt like it was just as good (if not better) than The Wrath and the Dawn. I hope you decide to check it out eventually. This Savage Song is one of my favorite books! It’s too bad you didn’t like her other books but I feel like..you should give it a chance? I mean if you already have a copy, it can’t hurt to read like ten pages right? 🙂

    1. This makes me so happy, Rachana! I am for sure going to keep This Savage Song too, because of many of my friends have gushed about it after this post! Hehe! I can’t wait to see if I love both! I have high hopes! 💖xx

  3. Personally, I didn’t like The Wrath and the Dawn at all and what I was told from my sister (she read the second book and I just told her to spoil it from me) it’s not really worth it. However, I love This Savage Song and I implore you to give it a chance! I still haven’t read her other works but I really loved it so I hope you can enjoy it too!
