Down the TBR Hole #18

Down the TBR Hole was originally created by Lost in a Story! The point of it is to help cull your reading lists down, or maybe push higher anticipated releases up on your TBR! And maybe you all can help me along the way, and tell me if you’ve loved or hated any of these!

How it works:
➽ Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
➽ Order on ascending date added.
➽ Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
➽ Read the synopses of the books
➽ Decide: keep it or should it go?

The Six Books:

Forest of a Thousand Lanterns (Rise of the Empress #1) by Julie C. Dao
I need all villain origin stories in my life, especially Asian inspired ones by Asian authors! I need to read this ASAP!
Verdict: Keep ✅

Whichwood (Furthermore #2) by Tahereh Mafi
I read Furthermore, and I didn’t love it. I didn’t dislike it, but I just didn’t love it. So I am not sure if I should even continue on, even though this setting and theme seems darker and better.
Verdict: Delete ❌

The Air He Breathes (Elements #1) by Brittainy C. Cherry
I really do want to read this, but I know I have to be in the right mindset for it, and I know that I’m not. I’m pretty sure this book deals with a heavy topic, and right now I just want light romances. But eventually, eventually!
Verdict: Keep ✅

The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater
A lot of people do say this is Maggie Stiefvater’s best book, so I can’t believe I haven’t read it. But Maggie Stiefvater makes it hard to want to pick up her back-list and support her sometimes. I’m just really on the fence about this one.
Verdict: Delete ❌

Jane, Unlimited by Kristin Cashore
Holy moly, Elise will murder me if I take this off my TBR! Hahaha, no, she wouldn’t! But I can’t believe I haven’t read this. I did an ARC trade for this on Twitter and then never read it. Why am I like this?
Verdict: Keep ✅

Romancing the Duke (Castles Ever After #1) by Tessa Dare
Holy moly, Paloma will murder me if I take this off my TBR! Also, I need to read more historical romances. And it’s honestly the perfect season for them!
Verdict: Keep ✅

Okay, friends, these are the next oldest six books I have on my TBR! Let me know if you love, hate, and/or recommend me to read or trash any of these books! Thank you all so much, and I hope whatever you’re currently reading is five star worthy! 🍂🍁

  1. It makes me so sad to see The Scorpio Races go – I’ve only read that and All the Crooked Saints by Stiefvater but I absolutely love it! It has the most gorgeous world-building and two of my all-time favourite characters in literature. I understand your predicament though, there are so many books coming out every week that it’s hard to make time for backlist titles! ❤

      1. Aww really? That means so much to me! I really hope you love it – and if not, I’ll take full responsibility hehe. But I do get the impression we have similar tastes so I’m really hoping you fall in love with it! Happy reading always, my dear ❤

  2. I have Forest of a Thousand Lanterns on my tbr as well, but am still hoping to read the Scorpio Races some time! I was a huge fan of Stiefvater’s Raven Cycle series, but haven’t read any of her other works yet. 🙂

  3. Melanie, you read the best books with the most color covers. I am like the magpie when I see your post… Everything from the cover to the writing and the ambience is so shiny….
Ooooh you are the witch and I am the raven wanting the shiny pieces (books) hehehe sorry darling, being so whimsical…. On the days I am not well my brain is very very slow except when I see shiny covers.
Recently went and checked what books I have on Goodreads and realized I don’t have most of them and can’t afford them now, so deleted them all. It didn’t strike me to do a post…
    Well… Eh… They didn’t have shiny covers!!

    1. Awh, you are so damn sweet, Shalini! What did I do to deserve you and your friendship? Ahhhh! My heart! If you can remember a few of the books – you should totally do a post! And… there is something that just makes you feel so good when you clean out your shelves, I can’t explain it! But I hope you’re having the happiest of reading, love! 💖xx

  4. i’m torn on Maggie Stiefvater too…i love The Raven Cycle in a way it’s really rare for me to love a series, so that makes me want to pick up her other books, but…ugh. i just don’t know.

also truly tis the season for historical romances…i’m hoping to find some christmasy contemporaries soon to get me in the spirit!!

    1. Right? I’m like… can I just wait for The Dreamer Trilogy? Thanks. And let me know if you find any good Christmas-y books, because I honestly have such a mighty urge too! I keep seeing people haul stuff on insta, but I’m like “DID I SEE A COWBOY HAT? NO!” so….

Okay, I love you, bye. 💖xx
