Most Disappointing Reads of 2018

Hey, friends! Okay, I know this post is going to be a little on the controversial side, but just remember that just because a book wasn’t for me, doesn’t mean that it isn’t for you or anyone else. I’m so sorry if one of you favorite books happens to be on this list, but I promise you and your enjoyment are valid! But these are the ten 2018 publications that I found to be really disappointing. (Click on the titles to read my full thoughts and feelings, along with full lists of the trigger warnings that I came across!)

Everless (Everless #1) by Sara Holland

  1. I was so disappointed by Everless and the Hazel Wood as well! I went into both with such high expectations, and both unfortunately, fell flat for me. Hoping your 2019 is filled with nothing but marvelous reads! Have a Merry Christmas, love! ❤

  2. The Hazel Wood didn’t really work for me either. I DNFed it with the feeling that I’d pick it back up but I’m really not inclined to do so. I, however, did like Everless but I didn’t think it was that mind-blowing or fantastic enough to warrant a rating higher than 3 stars. I’m still going to give the sequel a try though.

  4. Totally agree about The Hazel Wood and Everless! Everless was high on my anticipated releases for the year, but it was SUCH a letdown. The Hazel Wood was just not that good of a book (in my opinion). Great post as always, Mel! Merry Christmas 💕

    1. Rule has the potential to be good… which is why it hurts more! Hahaha! But yeah… The Hazel Wood I read in December of last year… and it really has stuck with me! Hahahahaha! But I hope you’re having the happiest of reading, sweetheart! Merry Christmas! 💕xx

  5. Oof I guess dnf-ing These Rebel Waves was a good choice! You know I follow your insta stories religiously, so after seeing you talk about Fight or Flight I had to remove it from my TBR, because NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT. Great list, I love you, I hope you have the most amazing time during the holidays!

  6. The only two I’ve read on here are Everless and The Hazel Wood. I thought both were “eh” I don’t think I was disappointed by them, mostly because by the time I got to them, the hype had died down a lot and many people had written reviews on how disappointed they were so like?? i didn’t have high hopes. i definitely enjoyed both books but nothing amazing if i’m honest.

    1. Yeah, I read ARCs of both… and…. they were really hyped at the time! Hehe! But that’s okay! We can’t love them all, you know? But I hope you’re having the happiest of reading and holidays, love! 💖xx

  7. I see two books from my TBR on here – The Hazel Wood and Cracked Kingdom. I’ve seen so many mixed reviews for THW, but I have to read it to know what I think. As for CK, the series as a whole has been a 2.5 star series for me, but it doesn’t change the fact that they’re addicting reads. I’d like to stop reading them. But I won’t until I finish the series.

    Thanks for sharing!

      1. Maybe I’ll keep it in the back of my mind for now. I don’t remember seeing it at my library, so I might have to ILL it, anyway. In the meantime, I have plenty of other books to keep me busy!

    1. Fight or Flight was such a weird one… because I knew some of the things were problematic… but I couldn’t put it down? I dont know! I’m very excited to see what you think of it ! 💖xx

      1. I’m pushing myself to finish The Fates Divide by Veronica Roth. I didn’t like the first book because I found too many inconsistencies there. But I just had to finish also the second one, so that it is not hanging in the air for me. So I do not enjoy it much, but, luckily, only around 50 pages left.
