Top Ten Tuesday | Keywords That Make Me Pick Up a Book

TopTenTuesday
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018!

Hey, friends! I kind of put a little spin on this week’s topic. A lot of things will make me want to pick a book up, but the main reason is truly my friends and reviewers that I trust and who have similar reading tastes to me! But I thought it would be cool to tell you all ten words that will always make me want to pick up and support a book!

➽ #ownvoices

➽ Asian Main Characters

➽ Pansexuality / LGBTQIAP+

➽ Fae / Faery

➽ Tavern / Inn / Pub Setting

➽ Morally Grey Characters

➽ Enemies to Lovers

➽ Boarding Schools

➽ Love Triangles

➽ Strong Sibling Bonds

Okay, someone hurry up and combine all of these things into my perfect story, please. But seriously, I love all of these elements so much, and if I’m aware that one or more or these words pertain to a certain book, I will be way more likely to pick it up! What are some keywords that make you want to pick up a story?

  1. I love the tavern setting as well. I don’t know that I have keywords that always make me pick up a book because I can think of exceptions for a lot of them, too. For me, it’s always a combination of factors that make me want to read it.

  2. I have no idea how all of these would combine, but boy howdy would I read this book instantly. I love queer characters and enemies to lovers! #ownvoices stories are also super important to me.

I think my biggest keyword is non-binary rep. A character that uses they/them pronouns will instantly make me pick up a book.

  3. Ooh a tavern/ inn/ pub setting! I like that one. Definitely need more of those! And morally gray characters, along with boarding schools, always seem to catch my interest.

  4. Tavern / Inn / Pub Setting is a really good one! I don’t have buzzwords specifically, but that one in particular did make me want to pick up a book! 😀

Oh, and strong sibling bonds. I love a good family dynamic, so that is definitely a must. 😉 Nice picks!

  5. I’ll read anything with well-written queer characters and/or a small town setting – they’re just so interesting and cosy! I don’t think I’ve read anything with a pub/tavern setting, you got any recommendations? 😀
