#5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook
You can learn more about it here or in the post announcing it.

Ever since I’ve started getting back into the blogging swing of things this summer, I’ve really wanted to get into new book memes! And I truly fell very in love with this one, because 1.) I get to talk about books I normally don’t talk about because they are TBR books, and 2.) you all can help me prioritize whatever five books I’ve picked for that week’s prompt! And what better way to start than with the five 2020 publications that I am most looking forward to reading  during the rest of this wild year! (Full disclosure, I think [and pray] these will all be five star reads!) 🐝

Over the Woodward Wall (Untitled #1) by A. Deborah Baker

“Avery and Zib find themselves climbing over a low stone wall into the Up and Under – an impossible land filled with mystery, adventure and the strangest creatures. And they must find themselves and each other if they are to also find their way out and back to their own lives.”

Who is this author, you ask? Another one of Seanan McGuire’s pen names! But this premise and cover have me so excited to read this middle grade and hopefully fall very much in love, even if the last few books I’ve read by this author have not been my favorites.

The Burning God (The Poppy War #3) by R.F. Kuang
November 17th 2020 by Harper Voyager

“As her power and influence grows, though, will she be strong enough to resist the Phoenix’s intoxicating voice urging her to burn the world and everything in it?”

After being absolutely Destroyed by The Dragon Republic at the start of the month, I am so honored to be able to review an early copy of this and hopefully have my heart ripped out all over again!

Rhythm of War by Brandon Sanderson
November 17th 2020 by Tor Books

“Now, as new technological discoveries begin to change the face of the war, the enemy prepares a bold and dangerous operation. The arms race that follows will challenge the very core of the Radiant ideals, and potentially reveal the secrets of the ancient tower that was once the heart of their strength.”

Talk about a 2020 anticipated release, aye? The way we are all going to be scrambling to read these 1,000 pages so this book can make all of our best of the year lists. In my opinion, this is Brandon Sanderson’s best series, and I cannot wait for this fourth installment!

How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories by Holly Black
November 24th 2020 by Little, Brow

53439886. sy475

“Once upon a time, there was a boy with a wicked tongue. Before he was a cruel prince or a wicked king, he was a faerie child with a heart of stone.”

An illustrated addition to the Folk of the Air series? I mean, we all knew I was going to throw my money at this. Cardan is my favorite character in this series, and I can’t wait to get any amount of more from this world!

These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong
November 17th 2020 by Margaret K. McElderry Books
50892212
“The people start to whisper. Of a contagion, a madness. Of a monster in the shadows. As the deaths stack up, Juliette and Roma must set their guns—and grudges—aside and work together, for if they can’t stop this mayhem, then there will be no city left for either to rule.”

A imaginative Romeo and Juliet retelling set in 1920s Shanghai? I think that is probably just about everything I’ve always wanted. Also, I think all of my friends have given this 5 stars already? Like, I am so ready for this to be a new fave.

  1. Ahhh I need to just read The Poppy War already, but I don’t know if I’m prepared! So many chunky series I need to start-The Stormlight Archive, the Folk of Air… 😰

  2. I freaking need to read The Poppy War as so many people rave about this series! I love Cardan so so much. I am reading The Wicked King right now and I am falling head over heels for this series! Great post, as per usual!
