Down the TBR Hole was originally created by Lost in a Story! The point of it is to help cull your reading lists down, or maybe push higher anticipated releases up on your TBR! And maybe you all can help me along the way, and tell me if you’ve loved or hated any of these!

When I first was trying to figure out how to work Edelweiss, I requested three books randomly and this is one of them! I have read book one, and I didn’t love it, but I enjoyed it enough. And I hate deleting ARCs from my TBR! One day, one day!

➽ The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry
I bought this on my birthday in 2017, when I was home and vised a bookstore in Flint. How in the hell have I had this beautiful book for over a year and haven’t picked it up? Why am I like this?

➽ In the Woods (Dublin Murder Squad #1) by Tana French
When I went to the Goodreads Summit in 2017, this amazing friend I made recommended this to me and told me it was her favorite series of all time! (And that book two is better than this one!) And like, it’s the perfect time of year to read this book, so I should honestly do so!

➽ With Everything I Am (The Three #2) by Kristen Ashley
Okay, so everyone who loves romance reads Kristen Ashley, but I somehow have been missing out for all these years! And this is the one that everyone says is her best work. What do you think? The fact that it is #2 scares me! But, maybe they are standalone? Help, friends!

➽ Surviving Raine (Surviving Raine #1) by Shay Savage
Shay Savage is another romance writer that I can’t believe I haven’t read! And I think her books are hella taboo? I think?

So, you all should tell me which one out of these two that I should keep and start with! Thank you in advance! And I’m sorry I’m such a romance slacker!

➽ Forest of a Thousand Lanterns (Rise of the Empress #1) by Julie C. Dao
I need all villain origin stories in my life, especially Asian inspired ones by Asian authors! I need to read this ASAP!

➽ Whichwood (Furthermore #2) by Tahereh Mafi
I read Furthermore, and I didn’t love it. I didn’t dislike it, but I just didn’t love it. So I am not sure if I should even continue on, even though this setting and theme seems darker and better.
Verdict: Delete ❌

➽ The Air He Breathes (Elements #1) by Brittainy C. Cherry
I really do want to read this, but I know I have to be in the right mindset for it, and I know that I’m not. I’m pretty sure this book deals with a heavy topic, and right now I just want light romances. But eventually, eventually!

➽ The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater
A lot of people do say this is Maggie Stiefvater’s best book, so I can’t believe I haven’t read it. But Maggie Stiefvater makes it hard to want to pick up her back-list and support her sometimes. I’m just really on the fence about this one.

➽ Jane, Unlimited by Kristin Cashore
Holy moly, Elise will murder me if I take this off my TBR! Hahaha, no, she wouldn’t! But I can’t believe I haven’t read this. I did an ARC trade for this on Twitter and then never read it. Why am I like this?

➽ Romancing the Duke (Castles Ever After #1) by Tessa Dare
Holy moly, Paloma will murder me if I take this off my TBR! Also, I need to read more historical romances. And it’s honestly the perfect season for them!

I know I will love this, and I can’t believe I haven’t read this yet!

➽ Wicked Like a Wildfire (Hibiscus Daughter #1) by Lana Popović
Honestly, I got this in a Fairy Loot and it is the only reason why it is on my TBR! I feel bad getting rid of it because it is signed, but I’m never going to pick this up.

➽ Age of War (The Legends of the First Empire #3) by Michael J. Sullivan
I loved the first book in this series, and really enjoyed the second. I can’t believe I haven’t gotten around to this third book yet!

➽ Trickery (Curse of the Gods #1) by Jaymin Eve
This is going to be short and sexy and I’m hyped for this. Like, maybe I’ll pick it up now that I have been reminded of it!

➽ Roar (Stormheart #1) by Cora Carmack
I know so many people who love this, so I bought it on Book Outlet, but I’m not sure if I will ever get to it. Have you all read this one? I mean, I am always looking for Fantasy Romance, so maybe I shouldn’t delete it?

➽ The Weight of Feathers by Anna-Marie McLemore
I love everything Anna-Marie McLemore touches, and I know this will be no different.

I like how these books are like “fantasy, fantasy, fantasy, fantasy, sure to be swoon-worth romance, fantasy, fantasy!” But honestly, all of these books are super appealing to me! So, I’m going to need your help, friends!

➽ The Rebels of Gold (Loom Saga #3) by Elise Kova
I can’t believe I haven’t read this concluding novel yet! I loved book one and book two, but I read them both from ARCS sent by the publishers, where I don’t believe they did ARCs for this one. So, maybe that’s why I let it slip my mind and fall to the wayside, but I really want to read this!

➽ 99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne
After The Hating Game, wild horses couldn’t keep me away from this.

➽ The Queen of Blood (The Queens of Renthia #1) by Sarah Beth Durst
I bought this from Book Outlet a long while ago, and I just never got around to it. Which seems to be what I do with most Book Outlet purchases. But now I think book three is already out, and I know that’s not the end! I just don’t know if I have it in me to start a brand new series. Especially when there are so many more out there that I’d rather pick up! Have you all read this? What do you think? Help me, my loves!

I read book one to this series last year and really enjoyed it! Also, that author is a complete sweetheart and I really want to work with him again, so I need to push this higher on my TBR ASAP!

➽ Between Two Thorns (The Split Worlds #1) by Emma Newman
Kitty G raves about this series so hard that it is totally on my TBR for that reason alone. But I honestly think it will be something I love! Also, I’ve read Emma Newman’s other works and really enjoyed them! I have super high hopes for this!

➽ Age of Assassins (The Wounded Kingdom #1) by R.J. Barker
I feel really bad because Orbit was kind enough to send me an ARC of this, last year for review, but I started seeing a lot of people saying there were fatphobia comments, and I just wasn’t in the right mindset to deal with it. Now, book two is already out, and i just don’t know if I want to invest the time or energy on something that’s probably just going to irritate me.

Oh my word, this is a damn combination of books! Holy moly! Some of these I want to read so bad, and I wish I didn’t have 200+ books on my TBR so that I could dive into them immediately! And one of these makes me feel so much shame!

➽ Assassin’s Fate (The Fitz and The Fool Trilogy #3) by Robin Hobb
You all, don’t judge me. Please! But I have an eARC of this book, which is actually book twelve in this damn series! So, that’s why it is on my TBR, even though I’ve only read book one! One day, ya’ll, I just need more time!

➽ Into the Forest by Jean Hegland
I don’t even know what this book is really about, except that it’s two sisters that live off the land, I think. Someone was raving about it, and then I looked it up and saw the cover and fell instantly in love. Have you read this?

➽ Blackbringer (Faeries of Dreamdark #1) by Laini Taylor
This was the only book I wanted for Christmas 2016! And I was blessed enough to get it! I believe this series isn’t finished, with only two books that were published, but I know that they are somewhat hard to get your hands on. At least, in good condition. But I want to read any and every single thing by Laini Taylor, so here we are!

➽ Misbehaved by Charleigh Rose
Oh my word, I can’t even believe this is still on my TBR! So, everyone was losing their shit over this new “ghost” team writers who created this book. But apparently one left, and one stayed for the next book, which I read and hated! So now I don’t think I want to touch anything else by them, even if this was before their duo-ship took a turn.

➽ Children of Earth and Sky by Guy Gavriel Kay
The publisher sent me this unsolicited when they were releasing the paperback version of this story! Again, I’ve never read anything by Guy Gavriel Kay before! So, you all should let me know what you recommend to start with!

➽ Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde
This is supposed to have some amazing rep, from sexuality, to race, to mental health, to disabilities; this is just supposed to be a world of good! And I believe it is set at a convention, and that’s pretty amazing, too! I really should pick this up soon!

I feel like we are finally getting into “newer” books, even though I still added these at the start of 2017. But yeah, it only took us fourteen posts to get to some relevancy across the board!

The Six Books:

➽ Wintersong (Wintersong #1) by S. Jae-Jones
Okay, here is the thing, I am so incredibly drawn to this book it is actually ridiculous! Yet, so many people who I love and trust absolutely hate this book! So, I think that’s what has kept me from picking it up! But I own it, I’m drawn to it, and I need to just go with my gut and read it!

➽ One Blood Ruby (Seven Black Diamonds #2) by Melissa Marr
I know I talk about Holly Black a lot and how she made me fall in love with all things Fae, but so did Melissa Marr! And I really enjoyed book one in this series! So, I’m not sure what the hold up is, but I need to read this!

➽ Twelve Kings in Sharakhai (The Song of the Shattered Sands #1) by Bradley P. Beaulieu
This is such a beloved series among my friends. I also got an ARC of a later book in the series, so I really need to tackle this one soon. And I have the highest of hopes that I will love this!

➽ Veiled Intentions (The Dragon’s Blade #2) by Michael R. Miller
I loved this first book when I read it too long ago! I totally want to jump back into this world and then even read on past this book! Someone, please, give me more time! *Sings Hamilton for the rest of the day*

➽ Arcanum Unbounded: The Cosmere Collection by Brandon Sanderson
This is another anthology that I’ve read half or more of! I just need to sit down and read all the rest. Also, some of the stories in this collection have honestly been perfection and life changing. I know the unread ones are going to be phenomenal as well!

➽ The Seven Princes of the Thousand Year Labyrinth Vol. 3 by Aikawa Yu & Atori Haruno
Friends, this is one of my favorite mangas of all time. I can’t believe I haven’t bought this or read this. When I started this series only one and two were available for purchase in the US, and I guess I just let three and four slip my mind. But I need to rectify this immediately!

Friends, this is another random combination! But, hello, my name is Melanie and I like fantasy and romance and the combination of the two! And I actually think that I would probably enjoy most of these!

➽ Mage’s Blood (Moontide Quartet #1) by David Hair
I truly think that I’d enjoy this, but so many books and so little time. I am just not sure if I want to keep this on my TBR when I know I would pick a lot of other high fantasy series over it.

➽ Dead Witch Walking (The Hollows #1) by Kim Harrison
This is Julie’s fault, in the best way possible. I always correlate this series with her, and I need to read it!

➽ The Seafarer’s Kiss (The Seafarer’s Kiss #1) by Julia Ember
I was really hyped for this, before it came out, but then I started to see reviews talking about unchallenged abuse. And you all know I’m not here for that, especially in a f/f relationship.

➽ Royal Assassin (Farseer Trilogy #2) by Robin Hobb
I can’t believe I haven’t read on since I read book one early 2017! I am such a slacker! But I love Fitz and I know I will really enjoy this! I just need to force myself to prioritize this amazing series into my TBRs better!

I heard this is heartbreakingly beautiful, and life is funny because I’m actually currently reading this!

➽ Rogues edited by George R.R. Martin & Gardner Dozois
I have probably read around half of the stories in this anthology, and really enjoyed them! Especially Pat Rothfuss’ masterpiece about my favorite character! But I just need to force myself to sit down and finish this collection! But I’m super excited to do so!
