Top Ten Tuesday | Favorite Couples In Books

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018!

Buckle up, friends! Because I could have made a list of 50+ ships that sail in the angsty waters of my heart every single day! But in honor of Valentine’s Day, I’m going to list my favorite OTPs of all time in order from least favorite favorite to most favorite favorite! (Also! Ships can sometimes be spoilery! So please use caution! Especially if you have not read Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff!) 💕

Kvothe and Denna

(Art by Dan Dos Santos!)

“Go out in the early days of winter, after the first cold snap of the season. Find a pool of water with a sheet of ice across the top, still fresh and new and clear as glass. Near the shore the ice will hold you. Slide out farther. Farther. Eventually you’ll find the place where the surface just barely bears your weight. There you will feel what I felt. The ice splinters under your feet. Look down and you can see the white cracks darting through the ice like mad, elaborate spiderwebs. It is perfectly silent, but you can feel the sudden sharp vibrations through the bottoms of your feet. That is what happened when Denna smiled at me.”

Starting out with the angstiest of them all! And the Kingkiller Chronicle ending is going to probably be the death on me, please I just can’t with these two.

Helen Blackthorn and Aline Penhallow

(Art by Rikki the Artist!)

“You can. You can do anything.”

The Asian girl gets the fae girl of her dreams, and my heart has never been more full. The blessings. The true blessings. Praise Cassie Clare.

Mia and Ash

(Art by Iryna Khymych!)

“What’s the map of?” “It provides detailed directions to the Empire of None of Your Fucking Concern.”

Best enemies to lovers of my life.

Mark, Kieran, and Christina

(Art by Loweana!)

“Few of us are lucky enough ever to know the whole truth about anything.”

I know! I know! But… You all, I read twenty things by Cassie Clare last year, and I honestly am the biggest garbage fire over her characters. I’m so sorry. But I would honestly die for these three and their happiness!

Evelyn and Celia

(Art by layaart!)

“Please never forget that the sun rises and sets with your smile.”

Wow, I’m actually crying on my keyboard.

Emma Carstairs and Julian Blackthorn

(Art by Loweana!)

“I breathe when you breathe, I bleed when you bleed, I’m yours and you’re mine, you’ve always been mine, and I have always, always belonged to you!”

Cassie Clare has so many good ships! I couldn’t resist! But Emma and Julian are truly my favorite ship of all the Shadowhunters. I love them both so much, and I love their love for each other. They are so selfless, so pure, and just make me so damn happy.

Lei and Wren

(Art by monolime!)

“Her kisses heal the parts of me that the King broke. They tell me: You are strong, Lei. You are beautiful. You are mine. And, always, most important: You are yours.”

This couple means the entire world to me, and they deserve only the best things in life. My favorite f/f ship of all eternity.

Lazlo and Sarai

(Art by taratjah!)

“He reached for her hand and caught it—lightly—and held it. It was small, smooth, and very real. Up in the citadel, Sarai gasped. She felt the warmth of his skin on hers. A blaze of connection—or collision , as though they had long been wandering in the same labyrinth and had finally rounded the corner that would bring them face-to-face. It was a feeling of being lost and alone and then suddenly neither.”

Friends, I can’t even weave words to begin to let you know how much these dreamer babies mean to me. But the answer is everything. Everything.

Cardan and Jude

(Art by MelieScribbles!)

“You are my dearest punishment.”

You wanna know what pan culture is? Falling in love with Jude and Cardan every other page. I want nothing more than to be in a polyamorous relationship with them.

Inej Ghafa and Kaz Brekker

(Art by xla-hainex!)

“I would have come for you. And if I couldn’t walk, I’d crawl to you…”

Not only are Kaz and Inej my favorite OTP of all time, but this is actually my favorite fan art of all time, too. The actual blessings. From the one liners to armor and crawling, to the stitching, to the hand holding, your girl is weak. My all time favorite literary couple and I honestly can’t think about them without crying. Perfection. True perfection.

Okay, now I’m equal parts a swooning and crying mess! But I hope you all enjoyed! Please let me know if we have any of the same ships! Or tell me a ship that I don’t have listed here! I’m all about that angst, friends! Happy reading! 💕

Top Ten Tuesday | Upcoming Releases I’m On the Fence About

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018!

Okay this week’s topic was kind of hard for me, just because I am normally a really decisive person so I can easily tell you if I am interested in something or not. But I tried my hardest to come up with ten books that I could potentially see myself picking up, and could potentially see myself not picking up! Life is just too short to pick up books that you don’t expect good things from!

Rayne & Delilah’s Midnite Matinee by Jeff Zentner

I’ve never read anything by Jeff before, but I am pretty sure that I’m reading this for a traveling book that my friend Julie started, but we will see!

Fame, Fate, and the First Kiss by Kasie West

Okay, I have an eARC of this, so I am 100% reading, but I am just uneasy because this cover is honestly hideous in my opinion! Plus, I’ve only ever read one short story by Kasie West, but I loved it so much I immediately went out and requested this and I hope it wasn’t the biggest mistake!

Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte

I was really hyped for this when it was first announced, but I’ve felt less and less interested as the days go by, so…. we will see if I pick this one up!

Starworld by Audrey Coulthurst & Paula Garner

I love Audrey so much, but I’m not sure if that is enough for me to pick this one up! I might wait until a few people I trust review this one!

Serious Moonlight by Jenn Bennett

Okay, this is the one on the list that I know I should pick up, just because all my friends love Jenn Bennett so much! But I’ve never reached for anything by her before, so I’m not sure if I will, or if I should get to her back-list first!

The Raven Tower by Ann Leckie

This is getting so much buzz! I’m just not sure if it will be for me!

The Afterward by E.K. Johnston

I’ll be honest, I was excited for this, but then the author said a couple heated things about bloggers and reviewers, but the thing that honestly pissed me off is that they didn’t apologize or try to make things feel… less bad after the hurtful things they said. Honestly? I’m probably going to be passing on this one because of it.

Lock Every Door by Riley Sager

I always get irritated that this author writes under a a fem sounding pseudonym, so I always say I’m not going to read his books, but then I get fomo because everyone else does and I end up caving, so we will see if I end up picking this one up.

Never-Contented Things by Sarah Porter

This was looking like it was going to be 100% my brand, and then the early reviews came in and yikes! I have friends that never DNF anything who are DNFing this book. So, now I’m actually scared to even give it a try!

Aurora Rising (The Aurora Cycle #1) by Jay Kristoff & Amie Kaufman

Okay, so I know most people are so hyped for this, but I honestly didn’t really like The Illuminae Files. Also, I am so sick of Charlie Bowater covers, which I know has no impact on the story, but there are other actual diverse artists that these publishing houses could be hiring to create diverse characters.

Okay, friends! Those are the ten books that I am unsure if I’m going to pick up! Is there any here that you’d absolutely love to see me read and review? Let me know! And I hope you’re having the happiest of reading, loves!

Top Ten Tuesday | The Ten Most Recent Additions to My To-Read List

TopTenTuesdayTop Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018!

This is honestly one of my favorite Top Ten Tuesday topics! I was so happy when I read this week’s prompt! Mostly because I love seeing what people add to their TBRs and for what reason! I have a mix of upcoming releases, things I plan to read in February, a couple booktuber recommendations, and newly acquired trash! 💖

Bingo Love by Tee Franklin

This is going to be everything, and I can’t wait to get to it this round of Contemporaryathon and/or this February!

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

I’m just a girl, who has disliked the last two Christina Lauren books, asking for punishment, because I know I won’t be able to resist.

Clockwork Boys (Clocktaur War #1) by T. Kingfisher

Rachel from Kalanadi put this on their best of 2018 (and the second book, too) and I knew I immediately had to listen to my SFF queen!

Normal People by Sally Rooney

Mercy from MercysBookishMusings put this on her best of 2018 list and spoke so highly about it that I couldn’t NOT add it to my TBR immediately.

Silver in the Wood by Emily Tesh

This has my two auto-buy key words: gay and fae.

The Beautiful (The Beautiful #1) by Renée Ahdieh

I truly believe with every molecule in my body that this is going to be literally everything I’ve ever wanted. But this author’s lyrical writing? And PoC vampires, living in New Orleans. Just take my entire wallet, please.

The Haunting of Tram Car 015 by P. Djèlí Clark

I loved The Black God’s Drums so much last year, and I can’t wait to have more to read from by this author. Also, the font on this book is like my all-time favorite.

Well Met by Jen DeLuca

This cover dropped on Twitter last week, and I went and looked up the synopsis and it pretty much added five years to my life!

The Last of August (Charlotte Holmes #2) by Brittany Cavallaro

After falling in love with A Study in Charlotte earlier this month, I knew I needed the next book immediately!

The King’s Men (All for the Game #3) by Nora Sakavic

Yeah, what can I say? I can’t believe I’m trash over this series, especially with how god awful this third and final book’s cover is.

Okay, friends! Those are my ten most recently added books! Let me know some of your most recent additions and then (hopefully) they will become my most recent additions!

Top Ten Tuesday | Ten 2018 Publications that I Meant to Read in 2018 but Didn’t Get To

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018!

Hey, loves! This is the best and worst topic! Best because never ending TBRs are real and amazing! Worst because so many books and so little time! I did make a post about the twelve back-list books that I hope to get to in 2019, but here are ten books that were all published in 2018 that I desperately wanted to read last year, but hopefully, maybe, say a prayer for me, that I will this year!

An Absolutely Remarkable Thing (An Absolutely Remarkable Thing #1) by Hank Green

Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup by John Carreyrou

Pride by Ibi Zoboi

The Map of Salt and Stars by Jennifer Zeynab Joukhadar

Empire of Sand (The Books of Ambha #1) by Tasha Suri

Becoming by Michelle Obama

A Room Away From the Wolves by Nova Ren Suma

Wundersmith: The Calling of Morrigan Crow (Nevermoor #2) by Jessica Townsend

The Monster Baru Cormorant (The Masquerade #2) by Seth Dickinson

A Heart in a Body in the World by Deb Caletti

Okay, loves! Those are the ten! Are any on this list that you absolutely adore? Any that you think I will absolutely adore? Let me know! And I hope you are all having the most magical Tuesday and that you are reading something five star worthy!

Top Ten Tuesday | New-to-Me Authors I Read In 2018

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018!

Hey, friends! This is officially my first Top Ten Tuesday of 2019! Booktube (and learning how to film and edit) has really taken up a lot of my time! But I missed this weekly post so much that I feel so blessed to be able to start back up! Especially with this fun topic of all the first time authors I read from last year! Also, don’t forget that I did write up a post all about my favorite debuts of 2018, but hopefully I only have a few repeats!

Jessica Townsend

This lovely author made me re-fall in love with all things magical and middle grade in 2018! Nevermoor was honestly everything. Everything.

Claire Legrand

I read two things by Claire for the very first time last year, and I couldn’t believe what I had been missing all my life! I love her and I love her words so much!

Jasmine Guillory

I fell so hard in love with this Romance author last year! Both of her books are ownvoices and set in the same world! And I cannot wait to see what she does next!

Talia Hibbert

I can’t believe I didn’t read anything by this beautiful soul before 2018! But holy moly did she win me over hard last year! So hard, that The Dragons & Tea Book Club picked one of her books for our February 2019 pick! The actual blessings.

Katie O’Neill

I read two of my all time favorite graphic works from Katie in 2018, and I can’t wait to buy and read everything else she has and will create!

Tessa Gratton

Tessa wrote my second favorite book of 2018, and I continued to read more from her all last year, and I just continue to be more wowed by her craft. She is so talented, and the way she strings words together is truly a gift from above.

Alyssa Cole

Alyssa is another Romance author that I couldn’t get enough from in 2018! A Princess in Theory was everything I’ve been looking for in the genre and she just keeps getting better. I cannot wait for her just released story set in this world, too!

Alice Oseman

Radio Silence was maybe my favorite book of 2018, and I knew I couldn’t compile this list without listing Alice, because I ended up reading all but one of her complete works last year, and I absolutely loved them all so much!

Emily X.R. Pan

I couldn’t not mention Emily, because The Astonishing Color of After was my favorite debut of 2018 and will always be a story I carry in my heart.

Cassandra Clare

You all really thought I wasn’t going to mention my actual 2018 queen in this post? Lord, help me! 2018 was truly the year of me reading 20+ things by this woman, and loving almost all of them! Truly, the greatest blessing of last year!

Okay, friends! That’s it! I hope you enjoyed, and I hope that I was able to surprise you with a few of these! I hope you are having a wonderful month filled with so many five star reads! I love you all!

Top Ten Tuesday | Atmospheric Books for the Cold and Snow

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018!

Hey, friends! This week’s topic was more about holiday reads (I think), but I don’t read that many holiday themed books! Therefore, I kind of twisted this topic so that I could talk about the ten books that literally made me feel cold while reading. The atmosphere of all ten of these books are pure snowy perfection! (AKA: my west coast self is missing my east coast weather, here in the States!) But I hope you all enjoy! ❄

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Chronicles of Narnia, #1) by C.S. Lewis

I mean, endless Winter! Need I say more? But you all should totally buddy read this with me and Julie – December 17th – 19th!

The Secret History by Donna Tartt

This book will forever haunt me with its words and its cold.

Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik

I only want to live in this Winter wonderland, forever.

Girls Made of Snow and Glass by Melissa Bashardoust

Snow White meets Frozen, with even more snow.

Frostbite (Vampire Academy #2) by Richelle Mead

Snow Lodges will forever be a setting I adore in books. Especially ones with Adrian Ivashkov staying in them, too!

The Sisters of the Winter Wood by Rena Rossner

This Russian Wilderness completely covered me with its coldness, and gave me all the best chills.

The Simple Wild by K.A. Tucker

Give me all the frost from the Alaskan wilderness, because this book was perfection.

Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton

This is actually my favorite classic of all time, and it is probably because of the perfect winter setting that’s completely unforgettable.

Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls #1) by Maggie Stiefvater

My first review ever, but also will always be a memorable winter read.

The Bear and the Nightingale (Winternight Trilogy #1) by Katherine Arden

Never, have I ever, felt more cold while reading a book. Katherine Arden’s words not only teleport me, but they wrap their chill around my entire body. This book is literally the perfect book for the colder season, wherever you live!
